Norway | Mouse stowaway forces plane to land

(Oslo) The discovery of a mouse, apparently from a passenger’s meal, forced a SAS airliner to make an impromptu stop, a spokesman for the carrier said on Friday.

The plane was due to fly from Oslo to Malaga on Wednesday when the stowaway was discovered on board, forcing the plane to interrupt its flight and land in Copenhagen.

“In accordance with our procedures, there was an exchange of aircraft for the purpose of an inspection” of the aircraft, explained to AFP Øystein Schmidt, spokesman for SAS in Norway.

“This is something that happens extremely rarely,” he said.

The incident does not appear to have dampened the passengers’ good mood.

“Believe it or not. A lady next to me […] “He opened his food and a mouse jumped out,” passenger Jarle Børrestad wrote on his Facebook page, along with a photo showing him smiling next to two other women, also smiling.

The passengers were flown to Malaga on another flight.

“We have established procedures for such situations, which also include a review with our suppliers to ensure this does not happen again,” Schmidt said.
