The Swedish giant Northvolt and the American GM will need hundreds of workers from abroad to start production at their factory in Quebec.
“It is too early to be able to put a precise number on the number of experts we will need, but to give an order of magnitude it will be a few hundred people, including Northvolt employees and employees of our suppliers », indicated to the Newspaper Northvolt spokesperson, Laurent Therrien.
“Our plans do not include foreign workers coming to build the factory in Quebec. Construction contracts will be awarded to companies already established here,” he stressed.
GM-POSCO too
150 kilometers away, in Bécancour, in Centre-du-Québec, the General Motors and POSCO (Ultium-CAM) factory will also need workers who have the expertise sought to launch the factory.
“Ultium CAM acts in full compliance with Canadian and Quebec laws relating to the employment of temporary foreign workers,” underlined Newspaper Jennifer J. Wright, spokesperson for GM Canada.
“A limited number of specialized temporary workers will be employed to supervise the installation of the equipment and ensure its operation in the best conditions,” she added.
The $7 billion Northvolt factory is the centerpiece of the battery sector dear to the Legault government and the $500 million GM-POSCO factory is also an important link.
Remember that the Stellantis Ontario factory will have to bring in South Koreans.
