In a series of tweets, the account managed by the National Capital Commission (CNN) declares itself “disappointed” by this announcement, which occurs at the dawn of the school break week.

“Despite the cold of the past 24 hours, this winter’s high temperatures and precipitation have caused thin and porous ice,” it says. And this ice is “not safe”.
In 2022, CNN partnered with researchers from Carleton University to study the consequences of climate change on the Canal Skateway. “The long-term goal is to help CNN make informed decisions about how to adapt its business,” it says on the organization’s website.
