No risk of shortages “as long as everyone consumes in moderation”

The war in Ukraine is destabilizing commodity markets. You may be struggling to find sunflower oil for example in some supermarkets. But “As long as everyone consumes in moderation, there is absolutely no reason for there to be shortages” assures the director of the National Association of Food Industries Mickaël Nogal, guest of France Bleu Saint-Étienne Loire this Wednesday morning.

Among the products in tension, there are also eggs. “We are going through a crisis on French territory with avian flu. We already have 15 million poultry slaughtered and therefore, that has an impact on both poultry and eggs, of course. There too, another ripple effect since you find them in other processed products.”

Agri-food companies are also ready change recipes to deal with possible shortages. “If tomorrow, due to shortages in certain ingredients that require their replacement with substances that may contain allergens, consumers will see a sticker on their products that will identify the ingredient changes.”

Additional information will be provided in store and on the internet. “Is it for a few weeks? That’s very difficult to say. It’s very difficult to plan, but in any case, consumer information will be guaranteed.”
