No one is safe | The duty

The shelters are overflowing, food is quickly running out and the snow is already falling. The homeless explicitly ask for it: they need help (““There is no more room in the shelters”: sleeping in a tent, even as winter approaches”, Anouk Lebel, The Montreal JournalOctober 31, 2023), but we are here judging their situation without taking action.

Winter is bad enough as it is. Can you imagine spending day and night in the cold and hungry? Society is too selfish to take the time to try to understand the scourge that befalls these people. The majority gather in the street in spite of themselves. As Sylvie Gadreau, homeless for four years, explains in the article mentioned previously, these people had a life before. No one is safe from sudden job loss, major health deterioration, domestic violence or the consequences of inflation. Even me, even you. […]

A bigger budget for the expansion, renovation and supply of help centers? Building temporary tiny houses? The transformation of abandoned spaces and buildings into new safe refuges? These are just a few examples of concrete actions that could make a difference.
