Since Monday morning May 16, the mask is no longer compulsory in the metro, train, plane or even taxis. It was really the last big anti-Covid restriction. However, many French people are determined to continue to wear it.
The pace is still just as rushed at rush hour. But casually, the face of the Lyon metro (Rhône) changed on Monday May 16. In the trains, users have dropped the mask. “It’s nice to see faces and smiles again”said a passenger. “We breathe, we feel better, but it’s destabilizing”, says a woman. Wearing a mask is no longer compulsory since Monday May 16, but remains simply recommended. Even unmasked, some admit to always having one at hand.
Even if the epidemic has receded, some users prefer to remain cautious, and keep the mask permanently throughout the journey. “There are still cases of Covid, I find that we are too tight and therefore, I protect myself”, says a woman. All public transport is concerned by the lifting of the wearing of the mask. With the end of this restriction, the mask is no longer compulsory in France, with the exception of health and medico-social establishments.
