The flow of the Seine passed on July 25 below the threshold of 81 m3/s at the Austerlitz station, triggering the passage of Paris, Hauts-de-Seine, Seine-Saint-Denis and Val -de-Marne on “drought” vigilance. This was announced by the Ile-de-France prefecture on Tuesday August 2. All departments in France are therefore now affected by the climate phenomenon and calls for water saving.

In detail, 46 departments (or rather areas, as the official map shows) are at the “crisis” level. There, only priority withdrawals are authorized, such as those for drinking water, sanitation and health. In the 9 departments on “alert”, in addition to the limitations of sampling for agriculture, some sampling for nautical activities are prohibited and the watering of green spaces is authorized at certain times only.

The “vigilance” level, called “orange”, triggered in the capital and its inner suburbs, is the first of four levels of drought (with, in order of growth: vigilance, alert, heightened alert then crisis). The “vigilance” level provides for measures such as avoiding cleaning your car or rationing watering, but no restriction, explains the press release from the prefecture.
