Bygmalion, the return. The appeal trial opens on Wednesday November 8 for Nicolas Sarkozy and nine other defendants who appealed. In September 2021, the former President of the Republic, tried for having exceeded the legal spending limit for his campaign in 2012, was sentenced to one year in prison, the maximum sentence then provided for by law.

During this first trial, Nicolas Sarkozy only came on the day of his interrogation, attracting the wrath of the prosecutor who pointed out his “total nonchalance”. The former head of state will change his strategy, aware of the gap in his interrogation compared to the other defendants and of a counterproductive absence at first instance. This time, he will be there for the highlights of the trial.

Bygmalion “glutted himself” says the former president

His lawyers will once again denounce null and void proceedings in their eyes, because Nicolas Sarkozy has already been sanctioned by the Constitutional Council with the campaign accounts invalidated and the overrun partly reimbursed thanks to donations from activists, the famous “Sarkothon” .

Moreover, the former president does not budge: the money swallowed up would not have financed his campaign, but Bygmalion founded by relatives of his rival Jean-François Copé. According to him, Bygmalion had “gluttonous“.
