The NHL has postponed all of its cross-border games until the start of the vacation on December 23, as COVID-19 cases are on the rise across the league.
The move was made “because of concern over cross-border travel and given the fluid nature of federal travel restrictions,” the NHL said in a statement on Sunday. The decision takes effect Monday.
The Winnipeg Jets were the only Canadian team to play a game on Sunday as they played host to the St. Louis Blues. Three clashes involving Canadian teams had already been postponed due to the rise in cases.
The Ottawa Senators were to face the Bruins in Boston, the Toronto Maple Leafs crossed swords with the Kraken in Seattle while the Vancouver Canucks were to host the Arizona Coyotes.
Games scheduled for Monday have been postponed, namely those involving the Montreal Canadiens, against the Islanders in New York, and the Edmonton Oilers, who played host to the Anaheim Ducks.
The Senators ‘home game against the Blues and the Canucks’ game in San Jose, both scheduled for Tuesday, have been postponed.
The Canadian, against the Rangers in New York, the Jets, against the Stars in Dallas, and the Oilers, against the Kings in Los Angeles, saw their game on Wednesday postponed.
Finally, four games scheduled for Thursday were postponed, involving the Maple Leafs, Senators, Canadian and Canucks.
