Pause of the Ecophyto plan: NGOs stand up against the possible abandonment of NODU

Environmental NGOs were invited to the Ministry of Agriculture on Monday February 12 to discuss the pause in the Ecophyto plan. They left the discussion table, protesting in particular against the risk of seeing NODU, the main indicator of pesticide use, abandoned.

Audrey Chantepie, market gardener in Cergy (Val-d’Oise), intends to continue using herbicides for her salads. The pause of the Ecophyto plan is good news for her, because it ensures that without phytosanitary products, there is no harvest. But the suspension of the text, intended to halve the use of pesticides by 2030, goes very badly for environmental NGOs.

A consultation launched on the indicator to retain

Invited on Monday February 12 to the Ministry of Agriculture, the NGOs left the discussion table. The major point of contention concerns the NODU (Number of Doses Units), which is the main indicator of pesticide use in France. He risks being abandoned. For NGOs, its maintenance is non-negotiable. Faced with the differences of opinion of stakeholders on the NODU, the Minister of Ecological Transition, Christophe Béchu, announced the launch of a consultation to determine which indicator to use to measure the use of risky pesticides.
