Newfoundland | Princess Anne cancels trip due to concussion

(Saint John) Princess Anne’s trip planned for next weekend to Newfoundland and Labrador to mark 100e anniversary of the dedication of the National War Memorial in St. John’s is canceled.

A Buckingham Palace spokesperson announced Monday morning that the princess was injured while walking on Sunday evening. A statement said she suffered minor injuries and a concussion on the Gatcombe Park estate, but neither the statement nor the spokesperson provided details of what happened.

The statement said she is being kept under observation as a precaution at Southmead Hospital in Bristol and is expected to make a full recovery.

In a statement Monday morning, Newfoundland and Labrador Premier Andrew Furey said he was disappointed that Princess Anne would not be able to attend the weekend’s events and wished her a speedy recovery.

Anne, the sister of King Charles III, is Colonel-in-Chief of the Royal Newfoundland Regiment and Chair of the Commonwealth War Graves Commission.
