Equipped with cutting-edge technological systems, this completely renovated bungalow from the 1960s responds to a current lifestyle and simplifies the daily life of its new owner. For its designer, this project represents a smart home model that he intends to renew.
Gabriel Ccopa created his company Excellence Construction Rénovation in 2015. For three years, he has been working flips in the city of Saint-Lambert. “For this one, I had set the bar a little higher, I wanted to do a major project. I had always dreamed of doing renovations to the tune of a million, so I did everything to make it happen. Also, we decided to integrate as many home automation elements as possible to distinguish it, ”says Mr. Ccopa.

The contractor just sold this property to Yves St-Cyr, a Mid-Century style lover, who didn’t want a house that needed a lot of work. “Home automation was an important additional attraction for me because I also have a location in Toronto and I can totally manage the system of the house with my iPhone, whether it is the heating, the lights, the exterior visualization of the residence. by camera, unlock the door … Even if someone rings the bell and I’m elsewhere, I can answer. It is a safe and practical element for me, ”explains Mr. St-Cyr.
Another interesting point: the equipment also includes a system installed after the city’s water inlet valve, which allows the owner to shut it off remotely in the event of a problem.
Efficient planning
In this 2,700 sq. Ft. Bungalow2 (basement included), where nothing had been changed since its construction in 1968, the spaces were compartmentalized and dark. Everything has been redone on a technical level, such as the electricity and the installation of a French drain, but also the earthworks. The changed windows, the repainted facade, the use of quality materials and the reconfigured ground floor literally transform the house, starting with the entrance, which was once very small.
“We wanted to have a wow effect! with the glass roof and integrate the entire home automation system into this space. This allows you to control all devices, including light, temperature and television, by voice command, ”explains Gabriel Ccopa. The black frames of the glass are reminiscent of those of the windows and reinforce the sought-after modern effect.
Available in the same tone, the floor is covered with porcelain imitating slate. “That of the bathrooms is identical so that there is a common thread. In the other rooms, an engineered oak floor with a maple effect was installed. We wanted to give a 2021 look, but let it be timeless, ”he continues.

The initial cutting of the pieces was inconsistent, and the contractor optimized the main level by completely redesigning it. “There was only one badly placed bathroom; we relocated it and added a second. There is a third in the basement, and the number of bedrooms has been reduced from three to four, two upstairs and two downstairs. ”
However, increasing the number of rooms did not affect the comfort of the common areas, and the president of Excellence Construction Rénovation had also relied heavily on the open space: by knocking down partitions, the living room, the dining room. then the kitchen has gained considerably in brightness, and everything seems bigger. This is what really pleased the new owner: “I found that the modifications to this one were beautiful and what I liked the most when I visited it was that the open area , for a bungalow, was really spacious and bright. ”
The natural light in the basement is more discreet because the windows are small. A lot of work on artificial lighting, by integrating recessed lights, among other things, was therefore carried out in order to overcome the lack of clarity.
Proud of the result of his dream project, Mr. Ccopa particularly enjoys working in Saint-Lambert. “I find it a pleasant city to live in, where there are a lot of trees and beautiful renovation projects to be carried out. In the long term, I would like to do four a year, ”he concludes.
