The peak of heat continues in places. New temperature records for the month of May were recorded on Sunday May 22, particularly in the Massif Central and the Alps, according to provisional figures from Météo-France transmitted at the end of the afternoon.
Several resorts improved on records set the day before, such as Superbesse (Puy-de-Dôme) with 25.7°C, Puy-Chadrac (Haute-Loire) with 34°C, Puy-Loudes (Haute-Loire) with 32.4°C, or even Ambert (Puy-de-Dôme) with 32.6°C. Unprecedented levels were also reached in Isère in Grenoble (31.4°C), in L’Alpe D’Huez (24.1°C) or even Villard-de-Lans (29.7°C), as well only in weather stations in Vendée, Lot, Drôme and Hautes-Alpes, again according to Météo-France.
France broke a spring heat period record with 40 consecutive days above seasonal norms, according to a report from Saturday. Data was not yet sufficient as of Sunday evening to confirm that this streak has continued.
According to the state of the readings, which are not yet final, the absolute daytime temperature record in France for the month of May has not yet been beaten. It remains established with 36.2°C, in Dax (Landes) on May 30, 1996.
