New incidents broke out overnight from Thursday to Friday March 11 in Ajaccio (Corsica), eight days after the attack on Yvan Colonna in Arles prison, reports France Bleu RCFM. About thirty people according to the firefighters set fire to three vehicles and a dozen garbage cans. Calm did not return until around 2 a.m.
At the end of the day on Thursday, tensions had already arisen between the police and demonstrators in other cities on the island. In Bastia, the clashes began around 5 p.m. and ended at 8:30 p.m., the Haute-Corse prefecture said in a statement on Thursday evening. The police were attacked by around thirty individuals throwing Molotov cocktails, iron balls and cobblestones at them. There were no injuries.
In Corte, on the sidelines of a peaceful rally at the start of the evening, the prefecture explains that around fifteen violent individuals attacked the sub-prefecture with molotov cocktails and cobblestones. The security forces proceeded to disperse these people. Again, there were no injuries. “The prefect thanks the police for their effective interventions, the cold blood and the courage they have shown for more than a week now”, adds the press release. “He renews his call for calm, dialogue and appeasement.”
