The president of the Agir Ensemble group in the National Assembly reacted on Sunday February 27 to the Kremlin’s negotiation proposals in the war in Ukraine. He also returned to the consequences of the sanctions against the Russians on the daily life of the French and on the presidential campaign.
Ukraine: no negotiations with “a gun to the head”
“How to negotiate when you have a gun to your head?“, wondered Olivier Becht, while the Kremlin submitted to the Ukrainian president a proposal for talks in Belarus. According to him, the diplomatic channel must be privileged, but the priority is a “complete ceasefire in Ukraine” and “the withdrawal of Russian troops from all Ukrainian territory“.
Olivier Becht insisted on the need to “fix red lines“to Vladimir Putin,”by being very clear on the fact that if they were crossed, they could cause the Atlantic Alliance to enter the war.“The Haut-Rhin deputy believes that the Russian president will not choose this”way there”.
The sanctions against the Russians “will have a cost” for the French
“The sanctions we are going to impose on Russia will have a cost“, assured Olivier Becht. “They will have an impact of 6 points of GDP“for Russia, but there may also be”side effects“for the Europeans and for the French.
The measures concerning the Swift system are in particular likely to weigh. “All transactions made with Russia went through this Swift system. Tomorrow, there will be no more sales of gas, oil, raw materials such as wheat, titanium, nitrogen fertilizers, […] all this will drive up the prices“, advances the deputy.
