In the wake of the numerous cases of abuse and neglect, the residences for seniors Floralies, in LaSalle and Lachine, were placed under guardianship on Thursday.

In a press release, the Ministry of Health and Social Services announced Thursday that it is taking over the residence to “assume the provisional administration of this CHSLD” for a period of 180 days.
Signed by the Minister of Health Christian Dubé and that of the Elders, Marguerite Blais, the press release informs that the conclusions of the mandated investigator Michel Delamarre are troubling.
“The investigator’s initial findings reveal that the CHSLD seems to indulge in or tolerate situations likely to compromise the health or well-being of the people who are welcomed there and which are incompatible with the pursuit of the mission of a center. accommodation and long-term care”, it is indicated.
“The CHSLD also seems to be experiencing difficulties that seriously compromise the quality of the health and social services it provides, its organization and its operation.”
The Floralies residences deplore four deaths among their residents who have contracted group A streptococcal diseases in the past few days. A total of six cases of this virus have been detected.
Many problem cases
Families have withdrawn their loved ones from the Floralies residences.
Lise Bourbonnais Brouillette had also confided, a few days ago, about the treatment received by her mother who stayed a month, this summer, at the Floralies de LaSalle.
“One day, she had a ‘scratch’ on an arm of about three inches, the skin torn off, bruises all over and stitches in her face,” she said last Monday.
Some problematic situations date back a few years. Sophie Gagné said her grandparents lacked supervision in 2019.
“My grandmother was choking, so we put the cabaret next to her. She wasn’t settled for dinner. If the family was not there, she did not eat,” shared the one who lost her mother on July 30.
According to information from TVA Nouvelles, the managers of the residence proceeded to the dismissal of a nurse last June, because he had requested the services of a sex worker.
“There are complaints that are well-founded, said one of the co-owners of the Floralies residences, Benoit Lelouche, last week. When we manage to identify those responsible, they immediately left the residence. There are employees who have been sidelined: orderlies, auxiliary nurses and nurses.
“It’s terrible,” he continued. These are people who are there to protect […]. I’m sorry for the families, for what happened. We will try to regain their trust.”
