Nearly one in two Britons unable to prepare a Christmas meal

(London) Disaster announced in the kitchen: nearly one in two Britons (47%) admit to being unable to prepare a Christmas meal from A to Z, according to a poll published on Wednesday.

In the UK, the traditional Christmas meal usually consists of oven-roasted meat with vegetables and drizzled with sauce.

It is the latter that seems to pose the most difficulties to those questioned, 81% of whom consider it unlikely that they will be able to cook a cranberry sauce and 73% a bread sauce, two classics of English cuisine.

73% of them also consider themselves incapable of preparing a Christmas pudding, an invigorating dessert often soaked in alcohol and prepared well in advance.

Roast turkey and baked potatoes, on the other hand, are among the elements of this meal that those polled say they master the best.

A third of those polled said they were not taught how to cook and the same number said they did not have the space or the equipment necessary to prepare the meal.

As a result 55% say they rely on others to cook for them while 15% will give up the idea of a Christmas dinner altogether and 8% plan to have this meal in a pub or restaurant.

However, shining in the kitchen seems to be one of the good resolutions for 2022, as 41% of those polled say that next year they want to learn how to cook a complete Christmas meal.

This Censuswide survey for the Co-op supermarket chain was conducted online among a representative sample of 2001 people in the United Kingdom.
