Authorities are concerned about an organization of fake police who are hatching plans to make citizen arrests and shut down Quebec vaccination centers.
“Of all far-right movements that adhere to conspiracy theories, groups of sovereign citizens like this are among the most dangerous because they recognize no law,” warns sociologist Martin Geoffroy.

The latter, who is also director of the Center of Expertise and Training on Religious Fundamentalism, Political Ideologies and Radicalization (CEFIR), has been monitoring the “National Guard of Quebec” for a long time.
“It’s a rather radical fringe that grants itself false judicial powers, based on false laws, false trials and false affidavits. […] They also disguise themselves as soldiers and police to make citizen arrests. It’s like players cosplaybut the members of the National Guard, they take themselves seriously, ”sums up Mr. Geoffroy.

Upcoming arrests
The newspaper got his hands on a letter addressed to the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) last month. In this document filled with false information, the conspiratorial group warns the authorities that it intends to close all the vaccination centers in the province.
The fake police and fake soldiers plan to talk to the employees of these centers first. Then, they intend to ask them to resign and leave the premises immediately.
“Otherwise you will be arrested shortly by the Quebec National Guard,” reads their online protocol. Note that the group does not use the word policeman, but rather “sheriff” since the organization is inspired by American models similar to its own to carry out its claims.
Report to 911
The SQ and the Ministry of Public Security (MSP) have confirmed that they are aware of the intentions of the Quebec National Guard.
“Are these sheriffs recognized in Quebec? No, explains Sergeant Benoit Richard, spokesperson for the SQ. Of course, they could face criminal charges if they misrepresent themselves as peace officers.”
The sergeant invites all Quebecers confronted with a “sheriff” or a fake soldier of the National Guard of Quebec to dial 911.
The Ministry of Public Security, for its part, recalls that only authorized police officers and justice system workers have the power to enforce the laws in Quebec.
“The MSP is concerned about any initiative of this nature and remains in contact with its police partners,” wrote publicist Louise Quintin in an email.
They would be armed
The newspaper found several social media posts where these conspiracy theorists have been trying to recruit and train fake police for the past few days. Each of these courses is offered at the Académie d’arts martiaux du Québec, whose owner is Frédéric Métivier.

It was by calling this company in the Capitale-Nationale that our representative managed to speak briefly with Daniel Gaumond, director of the Quebec National Guard.

“We are not doing interviews with the media for the moment,” Mr. Gaumond first mentioned. He then accused the government of being a “criminal” and of causing “genocide”, with no evidence to back up his words.
The conspirator refused to reveal the number of fake policemen and soldiers recruited so far. But do they have weapons at their disposal? “Of course,” he admitted, declining to give further details.
He wants to hang them
In a video shot during the demonstration called “Dehors la CAQ” on October 2, Daniel Gaumond spoke on a stage at L’Assomption.
“In Montreal, there are 15 pharmaceutical companies that are established there. It’s a whole bunch of Nazis. You have to close them and put them outside. Then the management [elle sera] hanged after judgment”, affirmed Mr. Gaumond in this sequence of approximately six minutes.
The National Guard of Quebec took advantage of the demonstration to install posters with their logo in L’Assomption. Their members were easily spotted during this event wearing camouflage and other organization uniforms.

A scam”
Martin Geoffroy, from CEFIR, maintains that there is always “wall to wall scam” in this kind of group of sovereign citizens.
“Often the people in these networks have a criminal past or they are criminalized. Why? It’s simple. When the law is not on your side and things are not going well in your life because you have broken the laws, it is very practical to invent parallel laws which give you reason, ”assessed Mr. Geoffroy.
He is therefore not surprised to learn that the National Guard of Quebec sells each of its formations of fake police officers for the sum of $212. These are by the way offered by the former sheriff of Arizona, Richard Mack, who created a similar movement in the United States called “”.

“For the moment, the National Guard of Quebec has not yet really taken action and remains marginal. My impression is that they are waiting for two or three hotheads to do the job and then they will wash their hands of it, ”drops Martin Geoffroy.
WHAT THEY SAID:
“We hereby notify you that we are launching an intervention campaign for the closure of vaccination centers across Quebec.”
