The teenager was on the edge of the river which, at this point, is bordered by cliffs, in the company of relatives. He then fell and found himself in the river, according to information from Stéphane Tremblay, spokesperson for the Sûreté du Québec. One of the people present rescued him from the icy waves. The boy was later evacuated by firefighters and taken to hospital.

“Resuscitation maneuvers were carried out throughout the journey, but the death was unfortunately confirmed at the hospital”, indicated to The Press Stéphane Tremblay around 6 p.m. Sunday. Radio-Canada, however, corrected the information overnight from Sunday to Monday, indicating that the child was rather between life and death. The Press had not been able to validate this information with the Sûreté du Québec at the time these lines were written.

The incident happened around 3:45 p.m. Sunday. Investigators from the forensic identification service of the Sûreté du Québec will go to the scene. An investigation will be opened to establish the circumstances surrounding the event. Apparently it was an accidental fall.
