Nagorno-Karabakh: the plight of Armenians who fled the region

In Goris (Armenia), thousands of Armenians from Nagorno-Karabakh arrive disoriented. They left everything behind. To support them, they can count on a surge of solidarity.

HAS Goris (Armenia)amid the chaos, teenagers volunteer day and night to help those who have left the Nagorno-Karabakh and who arrive by the thousands in this small town. “We do more for these people than the government. No one is coming to help us.”, deplores a volunteer. The Red Cross finds temporary solutions for those who are homeless. Many of them are accommodated at state expense in the city’s hotels.

The loss of their land

They are exhausted, disoriented and in shock at having had to leave everything in a hurry. A woman now finds herself alone with her six children. Her husband returned has Stepanakert (Nagorno-Karabakh) to help evacuate the population. For her, her future is without perspective. “All this humanitarian aid is of no interest to me, because I have left everything behind. I don’t need money, I don’t need anything.”indicates this mother. After the exodus, it is the mourning of the loss of their land which takes over for the Armenians of the Nagorno-Karabakh.
