According to our information, the young woman would have given some details to the investigators which would have allowed them to make progress in this nebulous affair which occurred earlier this week.
Zoé Boutin, 18, is charged with complicity in the murder and contempt of the body of Luc Lafontaine.
The young woman was arrested Monday, in Saint-Basile-le-Grand, in the company of her boyfriend, Nicolas Côté, 19, accused for his part of second degree murder and insult to a corpse.
The two young adults, who would have met at Cégep Édouard-Montpetit, where they were studying, were then near the Richelieu River, where a boat was also seized.
Two days
According to the whistleblower, Côté allegedly murdered Luc Lafontaine on Saturday evening in La Prairie, where the 68-year-old lived. Two days passed between the moment of the murder and the arrest of the couple.
The sexagenarian had been reported missing the next day by relatives worried that he was absent from a family dinner.
A bloody knife was found by the police near his residence, which would have led the agents of the Sûreté du Québec (SQ) on the trail of the two suspects arrested on Monday.
“It’s shocking”
It is still unknown what would have prompted Côté to commit this murder, nor how Boutin would have been implicated in the crime. It should be noted that the two defendants had no criminal record.
A neighbor of Zoé Boutin’s family met Thursday in Sainte-Catherine, on the south shore of Montreal, testified to being in shock.
“It’s upsetting. Zoé, I saw her leave to take the bus every morning. It’s people that I rubbed shoulders with and there, overnight, ”she said before holding back a sob.
The SQ, which took over from the Roussillon Intermunicipal Police Board given the scale of the case, is continuing its investigation. The police force is still awaiting expert results in this case.
Nicolas Côté must return to court at the end of November.
