Due to inflation, the war in Ukraine but also the bird flu, collective catering companies have increased their prices. This is reflected in the price of school canteens.

In Vallet (Loire-Atlantique), the price of the canteen will increase by 5% at the start of the next school year. “It would be nice if our salaries also increased by 5% to compensate, because everything is increasing“, annoys a mother. The town hall indicates that the deficit of school catering is approaching 300,000 euros. This trend is found throughout France.

The war in Ukraine, Covid-19 and bird flu have increased the costs of catering companies. The price of pasta is up 40%, that of minced steaks by 25% and that of poultry by 30%. “School catering, currently, we pay around 50,000 euros. Certainly, we will pay at least double“, says Françoise Van Roy, deputy mayor in charge of the budget of Saint-Julien (Côte-d’Or). The municipalities are trying to adapt the menus, favoring cheaper foods.
