“Mozart. Piano Concertos”, Academy of Ancient Music

We spoke to you last March about this formidable initiative, an operation to avenge the affront of the non-conclusion of the complete Mozart keyboard concertos once started by Robert Levin and Christopher Hogwood for Decca. In memory of Chief Hogwood, who died in 2014, his former orchestra raised funds to, twenty years later, complete the project and record the five missing volumes. The 2e of these CDs will be the hardest to sell, headlined only by the Concerto noh 5, K.175surrounded by Concertos K. 107 nbone 1 to 3of the Church Sonata K. 336 and a Movement in G major reconstructed by Levin. The surprise comes from an unexpected and fascinating sound universe, since Levin plays the K.175 on the organ, noting that the score lacks dynamic notations and lower octaves that might suggest a pedalboard. Hence the coupling with the church sonata and a differentiation with the universe (harpsichord) of 3 Concertos K.107, arranged after sonatas by Johann Christian Bach. Admirable, once again.
