Mother House: a beehive for sleeping, eating, working

(Paris, France) Opened in September, a new four-star hotel on the 9e arrondissement of Paris keeps an eye on tourists, but also on the locals who come to eat and work there. Its name: Mother House.

With 51 rooms of different categories, some of which are in the attic with a view of the rooftops of Paris (and the Eiffel Tower in some cases!), Maison Mère is more of a place to live than a simple place to sleep for a better start. .

Indeed, the building completely renovated during the last year (and decorated according to the theme of the hive and the bees) includes a bar, a restaurant and a co-working room, which turns into a yoga room some mornings. During the day, residents of the neighborhood come to plug in their laptops to work over tea or coffee. Better still, several local artists display their works on the walls and shelves, giving the hotel a little air of an art gallery.

  • Everywhere, works of art are exhibited, making the place feel like an art gallery.

The rooms are also decorated with objects and prints that one can afford in the event of a crush. The beds ? They collapse under the immaculate pillows, placed on white sheets. The size of the rooms is faithful to the Parisian standard: they are not huge, but functional. The same goes for the bathrooms, where Nuxe products are offered to customers.

Guests who, it should be noted, are greeted at the hotel with a warm damp towel.

At all hours of the day, homemade honey-sweetened lemonade is also available in the lobby. The service here is warm and personalized without being obsequious.

Some days, activities are offered, such as the crazy aperitif bingo on Saturday afternoon, hosted by a drag queen named Catherine Pine O’Noir …

Like the neighborhood

Some rooms have a balcony with a view over the rooftops of Paris.

With its works of art on display everywhere, Maison Mère is like its neighborhood, where several artisans have been established for 25 or 30 years. The hotel also offers a podcast to better discover the traders in the area. Far from the mass tourism that characterizes certain districts of Paris, the streets near the Cadet metro station are the haunt of pure Parisians who come to frequent restaurants with an exotic or eclectic menu.

The Hey Honey, the hotel’s restaurant, fits perfectly into this portrait. The chef, Colombian by origin, offers a menu that combines world cuisine and traditional French dishes. Think cactus tacos and 18-month AOC Comté. Or black pudding and burnt grapefruit. The oyster mushroom ravioli with roasted hazelnuts are to die for … The menu changes with the seasons and everything is homemade. Recently, the restaurant has offered a lunch menu that is likely to attract even more residents of the neighborhood.

In short, Maison Mère is a place that buzzes all day long and where you want to stay forever. Note: the price of the rooms varies between 150 and 275 euros (215 to 395 $ CAN) per night, in double occupancy.
