Moscow and kyiv exchange 90 prisoners of war from each side

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged hundreds of prisoners since the Russian offensive began in February 2022.

Russia and Ukraine announced on Tuesday June 25 that they had exchanged 90 prisoners of war from each camp, following mediation by the United Arab Emirates, which also serve as mediators for the return of Ukrainian children to their country from Russia. “At the end of the negotiation process, 90 Russian soldiers who were in danger of death in captivity were repatriated from the territory controlled by the Kiev regime”announced the Russian Ministry of Defense on Telegram, which added that“in return, 90 prisoners of war of the Ukrainian armed forces were handed over” in kyiv.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky confirmed the exchange. He posted photographs on Telegram of men surrounded by yellow and blue national flags. People present during the siege of Mariupol in 2022 and soldiers who fought in the area of ​​the damaged Chernobyl nuclear power plant at the start of the conflict are among the released prisoners, according to the Ukrainian president.

Russia and Ukraine have exchanged hundreds of prisoners since the Russian offensive began in February 2022 and regularly exchange the remains of killed soldiers. The last exchange between Russia and Ukraine was at the end of May, when they exchanged 75 prisoners from each side. A large-scale exchange of a hundred people from each camp also took place in February.
