After nine months of detention, Franco-Afghan journalist Mortaza Behboudi was released on Wednesday October 18. Accused of espionage, he was ultimately acquitted.
Mortaza Behboudi has been free since Wednesday October 18 afternoon. The Franco-Afghan journalist had been imprisoned since January 7 in Afghanistan. “The judges announced his acquittal of all charges against him, including that of espionage which made us fear the worst”informs Dorothée Olliéric, senior reporter and close to Mortaza Behboudi.
Rejoicing and liberation
While the Taliban regained power a little over two years ago, Mortaza Behboudi went to his country of origin around twenty times to report on what was happening there. He returned to Afghanistan on January 5, requesting authorization to film a report from the authorities. He will be arrested by the Taliban and then detained, accused of espionage. If he is still in Kabul (Afghanistan), Mortaza Behboudi should return to France in the coming days.
