Gérald Darmanin wants to step up the fight against urban rodeos. Awareness of the phenomenon with French police stations began in May 2021, and the Drôme police indicated this Wednesday to France Bleu Drôme Ardèche to already note the effects of the various actions carried out in the department since this date.
Jean-Christophe Lagarde, the deputy departmental director of public security, reports that the Drôme police have already carried out more than sixty dedicated checks in the department, drawn up around a hundred verbalizations and seized five motorcycles since the beginning of the year.
Most of the actions took place in Valencia. “Mainly in the east of the agglomeration. We had sporadically in the department some manifestations of this phenomenon also in Romans and Montélimar” notes Jean-Christophe Lagarde, _”we carried out a big action, especially in Valence and Romans, with the municipal police. By dint of systematic operations on Friday evenings in outlying areas – I’m thinking of the Couleures plateaus where we had rodeo events, the phenomenon has not disappeared but has diminished.“_
This does not prevent further accentuating these operations, in accordance with the instructions given by the Minister of the Interior. This notably involves the organization of checks by the various police services. “The instructions, it is the occupation of the public highway on a daily basis, but this time centered on the control of vehicles that could behave uncivilly. This is also part of our daily missions” adds the deputy departmental director of public security in Drôme.
In Ardèche, the police explain that the department escapes the phenomena of urban rodeosbut will also respond to requests from the ministry, by strengthening controls on two-wheelers, in particular in the event of noise pollution.
