More than 700 people demonstrated on Saturday March 23 in Caen (Calvados) against the EPR of Flamanville (Manche) supposed to start this year, reports France Bleu Normandie. These several hundred demonstrators come from Rouen, Cherbourg, Nantes or even Paris and met at the beginning of the afternoon in Caen in front of the Nuclear Safety Authority.
According to the prefecture’s estimate, there were 730 at the height of the gathering. The procession brought together anti-nuclear associations, agricultural unions and even political parties.
The commercial start-up of the Flamanville EPR is announced for mid-2024, 12 years late. The Flamanville EPR now amounts to 13.2 billion euros, according to EDF, four times the initial budget of 3.3 billion euros.
