More than 140 km/hour with the sole force of the thighs and calves. It is apparently possible. The Mayenne champion, François Pervis is currently in the United States, in the Nevada desert. The ex-tracker takes part in a one-of-a-kind competition. The goal is to reach crazy speeds on streamlined recumbent bikes.
We know the Americans’ passion for speed and big engines. But at Battle Mountain, perched 1400 meters above sea level in the splendid Nevada desert, there is no V10 or exhaust. There, the cars look like big rolling eggs. Two-wheeled rockets if you prefer. François Pervis arrived a few days ago on the other side of the United States: “Battle Mountain is a tiny town in the middle of the Nevada desert. It’s America. It really looks like deep America and it’s very exotic.“
I take it like a world championship
Inside these streamlined recumbent bikes, the cyclist or the pilot – we don’t really know anymore – is completely enclosed. Pervis, the fastest man in the world on a bicycle over the distance of one kilometer, could hang a new record on his hunting board : “mentally and physically, I have to be really on top. I take it like a world championship, like a world record attempt, like the Olympic Games. I put the small dishes in the big ones to optimize my chances of success. I’m not the type to do things by halves so I’m on board. I am super motivated and determined to beat this world record.“
Record to beat, 144 km/hour. The Pervis rocket could well take off this week in Nevada.
