The anger does not subside. More than 130 people were arrested on the night of Monday April 22 to Tuesday April 23 in front of the premises of the prestigious New York University (NYU) after pro-Palestinian student demonstrations, AFP learned from the American police. These 133 people were released, added a New York police spokesperson.
To justify this use of law enforcement, New York University claimed to have observed behavior “hostile and disruptive to public order”. “We also learned that there were intimidating slogans and that several anti-Semitic incidents had been reported” a spokesperson wrote in a statement.
A heated debate on freedom of expression
An NYU faculty association blasted the decision “capricious and unjustified”ensuring that he had not observed any anti-Semitic behavior. “The demonstration was certainly noisy but it was controlled. And the very aim of protests is to disrupt everyday life so that problems cannot be ignored”she defended.
