Business insolvencies continue to accelerate in 2022. The accommodation and restaurant sectors are among the hardest hit.

With 23.1% more bankruptcies over one year, France is experiencing an upsurge in bankruptcy filings. Very small businesses (TPE) are the most impacted, with an increase of more than 44%. Rozenn Le Goff, owner of two hairdressing salons, is suffering from this too soft recovery in post-Covid activity. “Before, people came much more regularly, every six weeks or so. Today, we shift to three, even four months”she observes, Wednesday, August 10. “My fear is getting to the end of the month and not being able to pay my employee.”

Trade is, in fact, one of the most affected sectors, along with hotels and restaurants and industry. 34,000 failures over one year were recorded in July. Levels that remain lower than those known before the pandemic. The end of state aid and “whatever the cost” weakens some small businesses, especially those already in difficulty before the pandemic. Continued sustained inflation could deliver the final blow to some entrepreneurs.
