(Montreal) Nine people were injured or inconvenienced during two fires which occurred in Montreal, Tuesday evening and early Wednesday night.
Of these people, four were taken to hospital.
We fear for the life of one of them, a 59-year-old woman, who was seriously inconvenienced by smoke during Wednesday’s fire in an apartment on rue Gascon, in the Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district. .
According to the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM), the three-story residential building was evacuated, but the flames were contained to the apartment where the injured woman resides. At the end of the night, the tenants were able to return home while the woman was treated in hospital.
The cause of this disaster was not yet known at the end of the night, but the SPVM, which is leading the investigation, doubted that it was of criminal origin.
As for the other fire, it broke out around 9:40 p.m. in a building of 15 apartments located on Melrose Street, near the intersection of Wellington Street, in the Verdun borough.
Three of the eight injured were sent to hospital, but all will survive, according to the SPVM.
The damage caused to the building is considerable. Investigators from the Montreal Fire Safety Service (SSIM) will shed light on the causes of this disaster.
