The 33-year-old driver was driving northbound on Boulevard Pie-IX, with a 34-year-old passenger on board, when he lost control at around 6:20 a.m. At the intersection of rue de Charleroi, he first hit the embankment and ended up in a lamp post. The accident caused serious injuries to both men and there are fears for the life of the oldest. The driver is in stable condition.
According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), alcohol and speed could have contributed to the skid.
Police officers specializing in investigation and collision went to the scene to understand the circumstances of the tragedy. Boulevard Pie-IX is currently closed to traffic between boulevard Henri-Bourassa and rue de Charleroi.
