(Montreal) A fight related to narcotics escalated in Montreal to the point where a 38-year-old man was transported in critical condition to hospital on Monday evening. Another man, in his twenties, was arrested at the scene.
According to the Service de police de la Ville de Montréal (SPVM), the conflict broke out shortly before 5 p.m. in the borough of Montreal-Nord.
When the police arrived, the man was semi-conscious and intoxicated, in addition to being injured in the upper body by “the use of physical force”, said agent Caroline Chèvrefils, spokesperson for the SPVM.
The victim was still in critical, “but stable” condition, added Officer Chèvrefils around 8 p.m.
The 23-year-old suspect was arrested on the spot and was to be met in the evening by investigators.
The scene, located on the sidewalk at the intersection of rue de Charny and avenue Laurier, will be analyzed by forensic identification technicians.
Witnesses were interviewed by the police. These are also witnesses of the events who revealed to the police that a conflict related to narcotics which degenerated would be at the origin of the dispute between the two men.
