Some 28 “racialized” blue-collar workers from Montreal-North have announced that they have filed complaints for lack of representation against their union accused of “negligence” and “discrimination”.
The blue-collar workers have previously denounced the inaction of the union and the employer in the face of the demands for redress and the recommendations of the investigation reports on systemic racism in employment in the borough.
The blue-collar workers will file their complaints under the Labor Code with the Administrative Tribunal, claiming legal fees to be paid by the union and damages.
The Center for Research-Action on Race Relations (CRARR), which supports blue-collar workers, deplores the non-consultation of those concerned in the negotiations between the two parties.
“When the discriminated blue-collar workers learned last month that their union began to negotiate with the employer a settlement of all the grievances, without taking into account the particular dimension of some forty discrimination grievances filed last June and without never consult them in this regard, they have lost all confidence in the latter, ”said CRARR.
CRARR intends to host a press conference on Thursday morning.
