Montreal | Man and child seriously injured in fire

(Hampstead) Two people, a 5-year-old child and a 36-year-old man, remained in critical condition in hospital Monday morning after being seriously injured in a fire the day before at an apartment building in in Hampstead, a municipality in the west of the island of Montreal.

At the end of the night, the Montreal City Police Service (SPVM) reported that there was fear for the lives of the two victims.

Emergency services were called around 10:10 p.m. Sunday to the building located on Chemin de la Côte-Saint-Luc, near the intersection of Hingston Avenue. The Montreal Fire Safety Service (SIM) triggered three alerts to control the fire.

When they arrived on scene, firefighters located the two victims who were taken out of the building; they were transported to a hospital center.

After an intervention of approximately two hours, firefighters brought the fire under control shortly after midnight.

The circumstances which caused the fire could not be clarified at the end of the night, but it seems that they were of accidental origin. It is the arson section of the SPVM which will be responsible for the investigation, since people were seriously injured.

Residents of the building were evacuated.
