phase

The Dutch-Norwegian duo Marta & Kim have combined circus and contemporary dance since their creation in 2015. In phase, the two acrobats Kim-Jomi Fisher and Marta Alstadsaeter join forces with a third performer to explore the place of humans in the universe by forming all sorts of combinations with their bodies. A short 35-minute piece, without seats, during which the public is in a way part of the performance, because we all exist together.

The troupe from Guadeloupe Métis’Gwa, which supports the development of contemporary Caribbean circus, offers in this show directed by Léo Lérus a cross-section of femininity. In beautiful squares, four performers from Guyana, Guadeloupe and mainland France bring together circus and dance. A show that focuses on the place of women in society by revealing different backgrounds, bodies and ages and varied origins, and which shows femininity in all its diversity.

The show Hiatus is aimed at toddlers.

La marche du crabe is a Quebec company for toddlers. In Hiatus, created by Sandy Bessette and Simon Fournier, a playground becomes an excuse to have fun with the notion of space and territory. The two creator-performers, Eline Guélat and Vincent Jutras, mix circus, theater and dance, accompanied in their wordless adventures by a musician who plays different wind instruments and with the sounds of everyday life.

Plastic offers a form of engaged circus.

The Swedes of Plastic combine live music and exploratory circus in this show that puts on equal footing the mixture of violin, synthesizer and voice that is inspired by the Scandinavian tradition with aerial acrobatics. Oceans of plastic, melting ice and the climate crisis are the backdrop to Plasticwhich also talks about the fragile balance that it is still possible to maintain in our relationship with nature and the need to be together now.

Carte blanche evenings will be presented during the festival, to leave room for other types of experiences. In the first program, for example, we can see the Collectif Cookson-Lachance literally deconstructing the art of the Cyr wheel, as well as the artists of the Chita Project continuously repeating their movements inspired by martial arts. In the second program, the acrobat Frédérique Cournoyer-Lessard will offer documentary circus, while the juggler Jimmy Gonzales will reveal all the workings of his art.

The Chapel Contemporary scene. From July 11 to 14, two programs.
