Montreal: a 9-year-old child burned in a fire

A 9-year-old child ended up in the hospital to treat serious burns caused by a fire Sunday evening in a residential building in Sud-Ouest, in Montreal.

Firefighters were called around 8:45 p.m. to a fire that broke out in a three-story building on Workman Street, near the intersection of Atwater Avenue and Notre-Dame Street West.

The fire declared in the accommodation on the 1st floor was quickly brought under control by the firefighters, but the child escaped with burns to his hands, bars and legs.

The victim was transported to a hospital, said Alain Laflamme, spokesperson for the Montreal Fire Department (SIM).

The occupants of the building were evacuated and had to be relocated to be taken care of by the Canadian Red Cross.

Firefighters also rescued a kitten found inside the apartment, it was added.
