(Sainte-Martine) A septuagenarian was seriously injured when he left the road early in the afternoon in Sainte-Martine, in Montérégie, reports the Sûreté du Québec (SQ).
Around 1:45 p.m., Beauharnois-Salaberry patrol officers were called to intervene on Route 138, known as Saint-Jean-Baptiste Boulevard West, in Sainte-Martine, due to a collision.
According to initial information collected by the police, a sedan traveling east on Route 138 deviated from its lane for a reason that has yet to be determined.
The SQ reports that a slight collision occurred with an SUV type vehicle traveling westbound. This second vehicle would have tried to avoid a head-on collision. It was subsequently that the driver of the sedan, a man in his seventies, allegedly left the road.
He was evacuated to a hospital for serious injuries, and his life is feared.
An investigation is underway and a police officer trained in collision investigation was dispatched to the scene to establish the causes and circumstances of the accident, specifies the SQ.
Route 138 is closed in both directions, as well as 203.
