It is a controversial visit on Thursday July 28. Saudi leader Mohammed Bin Salman is received by President Emmanuel Macron for a working dinner on gas and oil. Associations which defend human rights deplore this visit.

Energy distances from Russia have consequences. France must therefore turn to other oil and gas suppliers. The leaders of United Arab Emirates were received at the Élysée on Monday July 25. Thursday, July 28, it is the Saudi leader Mohammed Bin Salman that will meet Emmanuel Macron. Saudi Arabia is the world’s second largest oil producer, France has already imported 2.6 million tonnes from this country in 2021. Moreover, the Saudis have the opportunity to increase their production according to the will of its leaders.

The French authorities would like the main oil-producing countries in the Middle East to increase their production. A discussion between the American and French presidents had challenged the observers. Emmanuel Macron had told Joe Biden asking the Head of State of the United Arab Emirates that he wanted to see him increase his production. The French president would like to see Saudi Arabia produce an additional 3 million barrels a day to bring down gasoline prices. The Saudi crown prince has been accused of playing a role in the murder of journalist Jamal Khashoggi and would like to see its image restored to the international community.
