Mohamed Sifaoui’s turn to defend himself. During his hearing before the Senate inquiry committee, Thursday, June 15, the journalist involved in the case of the Marianne fund assured not to be “guilty of nothing”. “Marlene Schiappa is not my friend”defended Mohamed Sifaoui, ensuring however that“there were regular meetings” at the request of the Secretary of State for the Social and Solidarity Economy and Associative Life.

Mohamed Sifaoui is the co-leader of USEPPM, the Federative Union of Physical Education and Military Preparation Societies. This association is the main beneficiary of the anti-separatism fund. However, he denies any favoritism in the allocation of grants. “Neither Ms. Schiappa nor her firm have made any financial commitment to me”he insisted, adding that he did not “never requested an appointment to offer (his) services”.

Heard Wednesday by the Senate commission of inquiry, Marlène Schiappa also defended herself from the irregularities of which she is accused in this file. The former Minister in charge of Citizenship, at the initiative of this device launched after the assassination of Samuel Paty in October 2020, did not recognize personal errors, even if she conceded “malfunctions in the organization and management of the fund”.
