Mobilization to defend outdoor poultry farming in Niort

Collective save the chicken and the Peasant confederatione settled in the city center of Niort, Saturday, May 14, to attract as many consumers as possible from the market. Martine, a resident, signs the convinced petition “I come to support them, I have always bought my chicken and eggs here as they are free range.”

Save free-range poultry farming

This is the purpose of the gathering. Inform consumers of the Deux-Sèvres”what they will have on their plates tomorrow“Simplifies Hélène Bailly who militates “against battery-raised chicken”. Another breeder passes through the crowd, rillettes of poultry on a tray. These are the last fears Nicolas Soufflet. After the massive slaughter of his 482 “healthy” poultry, the breeder installed near Moncoutant, is “forced and forced” on technical unemployment.

“We are more impacted by government measures than by avian flu itself” – insists Hélène Bailly from the Sauve qui poule collective.

The Sauve qui poule collective, made up at the end of 2021 of 70 independent breeders, therefore opposes any measure for the slaughter of healthy animals, precautionary measure taken by the government to stem the episode of avian flu. “We are more affected by these rules than by the avian flu itself“deplores Hélène Bailly, the breeder from Mazières-en-Gâtine. At her side, another breeder, Jean-Paul Godin of the Confédération paysanne enchaine”these measures are not adapted to the size of our farms and weaken our animals“.

“My poultry are outside, I shout it loud and clear” proclaims a breeder from the Sauve Qui Poule collective.

Some breeders present do not respect the confinement of their poultryand “will not do so in the future” they promise. “We must learn to live with the virus” they conclude.
