(Anaheim) Los Angeles Angels star Mike Trout will be out indefinitely as he undergoes surgery on his left knee.
Trout requires surgery for a torn meniscus.
The Angels believe he can return to action this season, club general manager Perry Minasian said.
Trout leads major league baseball with 10 home runs this year, tied with Gunnar Henderson of the Baltimore Orioles.
The center fielder will be sidelined with a serious injury for the fourth consecutive season.
Trout had an MRI test Monday after taking part in his team’s 6-5 win over Philadelphia. He held back tears as he described the increasing pain after the match.
” It’s crazy. I don’t even know when it would have happened,” he said.
The Angels entered the day with an 11-18 record in their first season since the departure of Shohei Ohtani as a free agent.
Trout, 32, was the American’s Most Valuable Player in 2014, 2016 and 2019.
