Michel Marc Bouchard receives an award from the Governor General

Quebec playwright Michel Marc Bouchard received one of the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards, announced Thursday.

Bouchard is the author of many outstanding pieces, including The Feluettes And The Orphan Muses.

In a video recorded for the award ceremony, the writer says it was “velvet” for his career.

“It’s always weird to get an award for something you’ve always loved doing,” he said.

Other recipients include jazz singer Molly Johnson, soprano Rosemarie Landry, singer-songwriter kd lang and choreographer James Kudelka.

The awards will be presented at the Governor General’s Performing Arts Awards Gala, to be held May 27 at the National Arts Center in Ottawa.

This year, the honorary chairs of the event are Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds and his wife, actress Blake Lively.
