Michel Jean retires from journalism to devote himself to writing

Journalist Michel Jean announces that he will retire on Friday after 40 years in the profession to devote himself full-time to writing.

Michel Jean has worked for the TVA network since 2005, where he notably co-hosted the public affairs program JE. He will offer his last TVA Nouvelles midi on Friday after three years at the helm of the television news.

Before joining TVA, Mr. Jean was a journalist at Radio-Canada, where he covered the crisis in Haiti and the war in Iraq as an international reporter.

In 2006 he received the Judith Jasmin Prize for a report he made in Lebanon for TVA.

Alongside his career as a journalist, Michel Jean has published several books, in which he discusses the history of Aboriginal people, himself being of Innu origin.

His novel Kukumpublished in 2019, was a huge success in Quebec and has been translated into several languages. The book received the 2020 France Québec prize and will be adapted into a play at the Théâtre du Nouveau Monde in November.

His latest book, Qimmikwas launched in 2023.

“Looking back over my career, I am proud of the work accomplished and grateful to the people who have crossed my path,” he said in a press release published by TVA.

“I will definitely miss the hustle and bustle of the newsroom, as will my colleagues, but I am excited to begin this new chapter in my life.”
