(Miami) The Miami-Dade police chief underwent surgery in the past few hours after being seriously injured in an incident whose circumstances remain unclear at this time.
Miami-Dade Mayor Daniella Levine Cava announced Monday that Chef Alfredo “Freddy” Ramirez is now in stable condition in Tampa. The 52-year-old was in town attending a conference when he was injured.
The incident happened along Highway 75 and two Florida law enforcement agencies are investigating, but no further details are available at this time.
Chief Ramirez has been a member of the Miami-Dade police force for 27 years. He announced in May his intention to run for the newly created sheriff’s post next year, signaling his desire to remain as the city’s police chief.
