(Montreal) Ray-Mont Logistiques, whose project for a transshipment center in the borough of Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve is contested by popular mobilization, has just obtained authorization from the Ministry of the Environment, the Fight against Climate Change, Wildlife and Parks (MELCCFP).

In a press release published at the end of the day Friday, the ministry announces that it authorizes a “first phase of operation” of the container transshipment platform on the property of rue Notre-Dame Est.
The MELCCFP specifies that the permitted activities concern trucking, handling and storage of containers. However, only a portion of 18,000 square meters, or approximately 8% of the property, can be exploited.
In addition, the authorization is accompanied by conditions on the implementation of mitigation measures and control of the noise environment.
Among the conditions imposed, Ray-Mont will have to limit the transit of containers to 1,500 per day and storage to a maximum of 5,000. In addition, activities on the site must take place between 7 a.m. and 7 p.m.
In addition, noise measurements will be taken during the first month of operation, then every three months thereafter.
“These measures will make it possible to verify compliance with established noise standards and, if required, to take the necessary corrective measures in the event of an overrun”, assures the ministry in its press release.
