Lithium batteries on fire in a container forced an intervention by the Montreal Fire Department (SIM), at the intersection of Bossuet and Notre-Dame East streets, in the Mercier–Hochelaga-Maisonneuve borough. Some 50 firefighters are still on site.
The SIM is asking citizens to avoid the area, where a strong chemical smell has been present since the start of the intervention, shortly after 3 p.m. The SIM’s hazardous materials intervention group is handling the situation.
The SIM said no one was injured.
