Men need help

I am saddened to write these lines: on Saturday, in Granby, a 29-year-old woman was found lifeless. This would be the first suspected femicide of the year. Her partner was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in this case.

I read in an article from Newspaper that “according to information from the QMI Agency, the man was arrested, then accused of death threats, in a marital context in 2021”.

In an interview with LCN on Saturday, the general director of the organization Entraide pour hommes, Geneviève Landry, estimated that psychosocial support for men who have already been arrested by the police would help prevent femicides.

With their lives, women too often pay the price for the lack of psychological support provided to violent men.

I tell myself that if men in general were less afraid of going to see a psychologist, perhaps some violent men would have gone themselves to seek the help they needed before killing their partner.

Social problem

In a publication on the website of the Ministry of Health and Social Services entitled Health and well-being statistics by sex – All of Quebec, updated in 2018, we can read this: “Men are proportionally less numerous than women to consult a specialist about their mental health, throughout the periods studied.

I think a man’s true strength lies in his ability to be vulnerable and I think it’s important to teach that to the little boys you’re around.

I believe society would be better off if men were less afraid to be vulnerable and seek psychological help. I am convinced that far fewer women would be killed by their partners.
