McLaren | Unveiling of the 750S, replacement for the 720S

With its Formula 1 team mired in a see-saw streak, McLaren’s car wing continues its quest for the supercar crown by upgrading its current lineup. This is how the 750S was born, a new model recently presented which will take the place of the 720S and which should be the last model without the support of an electric motor.

The name of this rookie essentially translates its power in metric horsepower (750) as well as its position in the organization chart of the Super (S) line, the last rung before the limited edition models.

In the case of this 750S, it’s a 4L twin-turbo V8 placed in the center of its carbon fiber chassis that falls to the task of producing 740 hp, 30 hp more than the 720S. Its 590 lb-ft of torque is sent to the rear wheels through a dual-clutch transmission (seven-speed). When you take into account that it weighs only 1389 kg, which is around thirty kilos less than its predecessor, this 750S was born to accelerate fast and hard. The 0-100 km/h is thus produced in just 2.8 s and the 0-200 km/h in 7.2 s, up to a peak of 332 km/h.

However, it would be simplistic to draw a portrait based solely on raw performance figures. By means of 30% of components replaced or modified compared to the 720S, this newcomer is designed for the track with its latest generation hydraulic damping as well as a revised suspension geometry. The direction also remains hydraulic, for the tactile aspect of the thing. It will be on sale in both coupe and convertible versions, to make the most of the summer.
